India Flight Permits for Business Aviation
Planning a non-scheduled, charter, business aviation or special-purpose flight into or through India? ATTS helps operators identify the applicable permission path, prepare flight details and coordinate permit follow-up alongside airport ground arrangements. The requirements depend on the aircraft, operator, registration, route and purpose of flight.
Which permission does your flight need?
Landing and overflight are different movements. A foreign-registered aircraft planning a non-scheduled flight to an Indian airport should check the current DGCA permission requirements for its operation. An aircraft transiting Indian territory or airspace should confirm the applicable overflight rules and routing. Indian-registered aircraft and scheduled operations follow their own approvals and operating conditions. ATTS reviews the proposed movement before advising what to prepare; a general guide cannot determine permission for every flight.
Start with the AAI eAIP GEN 1.2: entry, transit and departure of aircraft and the DGCA notices and procedures. Check current NOTAMs and any route or airport-specific condition close to operation.
Territory, FIRs and notice periods
Indian territory and Indian Flight Information Regions are different. GEN 1.2 distinguishes non-scheduled flights into, from or over Indian territory from flights outside that territory but within an Indian FIR. Check the actual route before deciding whether permission is needed.
The published minimum notice period depends on traffic or non-traffic purpose and origin; it is not a guaranteed approval time. Confirm the applicable category, exceptions and current authority instructions before submission. Repeat-flight programmes and domestic passenger or cargo carriage need separate review of the approval scope.
What to send for a permit review
Give the operations team enough information to identify the applicable process and coordinate with the responsible authority:
- Aircraft registration, type, operator and state of registration.
- Purpose of flight and whether it is private, commercial, charter, ferry or another operation.
- Proposed routing, Indian entry and exit points, destination and alternates.
- Planned dates and times in UTC, including any technical stop and onward sector.
- Passenger and crew details and supporting documents requested for the specific application.
- Any schedule constraint, airport approval, handling, parking, fuel or CIQ need.
The authority may request additional documents. ATTS will confirm the current list for the planned movement rather than assume one checklist fits every operator.
Permit approval is one part of the ground plan
A permit does not by itself confirm an airport slot, parking stand, military or airport access, customs and immigration arrangements, ground handling or fuel uplift. These items should be checked for the selected airport and aircraft. A schedule or routing change can also require the permissions and ground arrangements to be reviewed again before dispatch.
For a civil enclave such as Pune, read the Pune landing-permit guide and PNQ operational guide. For broader arrangements, see flight support in India, airport ground handling and aviation fuelling services.
How ATTS coordinates a flight-permit request
- Review the movement: confirm aircraft, registration, operation type, route and airport.
- Identify requirements: check current authority guidance and the documents relevant to that flight.
- Coordinate the submission: prepare or follow up on the applicable request with the responsible parties.
- Align the ground plan: check handling, parking, CIQ and fuel requirements separately.
- Reconfirm before departure: compare issued permissions with the final schedule, routing and NOTAMs.
Processing and approval remain with the relevant authorities. Lead time varies by flight and circumstances, so contact ATTS as soon as the proposed schedule is known.
India flight permit questions
Does a landing permit include parking and CIQ?
No. Confirm airport access, parking and any required customs and immigration arrangements separately for the proposed movement.
What if the route or timing changes?
Tell the permit and handling teams promptly. They should check whether the issued approval and airport arrangements still match the revised plan.
Can ATTS guarantee a permit by a fixed time?
Approval and timing depend on the responsible authority and the specific flight. ATTS can help prepare and coordinate a complete request, then follow its status.
Discuss your India flight
Send the aircraft, route and proposed schedule to sales@atts.aero. ATTS can review the permit question and the handling, fuel and airport support needed for the same movement.
